Correct: writer-cum-director

I just read Eric Eisenberg’s Cinema Blend article about Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s upcoming untitled R-rated musical project with Channing Tatum. In it, the writer describes Gordon-Levitt as a “writer-cum-director” which I had never read/seen before. I thought it was a little bit of a Freudian slip so I looked it up. It was not a slip, and indeed it was the correct word usage.

Please see Iva Cheung’s lengthy post on the come vs. cum word battle.

Chafing at custom’s chain;

Again from its burial sleep

Wakens the feline strain.”
